As accountants, our clients share their very personal and sensitive information with us; finances, income, family, etc., but rarely do we share personal information about ourselves with our clients. How can relationships based around trust be built if you don’t know anything about your accountant? I’m a fairly open book so please take a few minutes to get intimate with me, Jason Armstrong, CPA, CGA.
I was born in 1985 in Georgetown before moving to Prince Edward County where I spent most of my youth. I came to London in 2004 to attend Fanshawe College and ended up falling in love with the Forest City – does it get much better than London?
Athletics and academia have played important roles in my life and without them I wouldn’t be where I am today. I believe that involvement in sports can teach people a lot of transferable skills that can be utilized in the business world and that you can learn a lot about an individual by observing their participation in sporting events. I am most passionate about soccer and golf as they have allowed me to benefit from playing in a team environment and also overcome the psychological hurdles involved in individual sport.
Education has always been an important part of my life although I would have rather been playing sports than hitting the books growing up. Fanshawe College is where my true passion for education was developed and is where I successfully completed both the Business – Accounting and Business Administration – Accounting diplomas while achieving the Dean’s Honour Roll and President’s Honour Roll. I have since gone on to obtain my Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from Laurentian University, my Payroll Compliance Practitioner certification from the Canadian Payroll Association and ultimately my Certified General Accountants (CGA) designation.
My education has allowed me to build a solid foundation of knowledge and understanding in accounting while my experience has developed my skills and abilities on the application of my knowledge. While working in public accounting at The Fisher Corporation and Allied Associates, I gained valuable experience directly related to the services that we are offering with Armstrong Chelonis LLP. My leadership capabilities were refined while holding the Accounting Manager positions at United Agri Products Canada Inc. and Loveland Products Canada Inc.. In addition to this experience, I have taught several courses in the Lawrence Kinlin School of Business at Fanshawe College; Principles of Accounting I & II, Computer Applications for Intermediate Accounting I & II, Payroll Legislation, Principles of Payroll I, Microeconomics/Contemporary Issues in Economics.
By far, the most important thing to me is my family. My wife Alycia and I have two brilliant and beautiful daughters; Paisley, born in June 2011 and Jordyn, born in October 2014. My girls are the reason that I do anything and everything in life! They provide me with purpose, motivation and all of the support in the world.
I take great pride in where I am today and would consider myself successful; I am a truly happy individual with a healthy family – everything else is just a bonus! I look forward to building lasting relationships and embracing the opportunities that will present themselves in this chapter of my life. Now that you know a little about me, let’s hear about you and how I can be of service to you!
